King Karl

Need some retail therapy? Head over the Net-a-Porter where Karl Lagerfeld's first online collection has finally made its debut. The collection is definitely edgy and trend-forward, yet very true to Karl's signature look (think collars + leather gloves). Almost all the pieces are black & white, made of up luxe materials- sequins, leather, metallic...as if things could sound any better, it's affordable! But you'd better hurry - sizes are quickly selling out!

Color Inspiration: Orange Crush

Orange has always been one of my favorite colors - it was even the color of my prom dress, way back when in 2004.  2012 PANTONE Color of the year, Tangerine Tango, is a beautiful reddish orange. It's very bright and works perfectly in home goods, beauty products, and especially in fashion (think color-blocking trend). Shades of orange can go from more pastel mango colors, to warm golden hues, and even neon. If you're like me and not ready to move past the neon trend, look to designers like Matthew Williamson, Cambridge Satchel Co, and DVF for hot neon orange pieces to add to your wardrobe. Queen of Color, Kate Spade has orange everything from quirky tote bags to iphone cases. And if you're only looking to add accents of orange, look to using beauty products like MAC lipstick in Morange and Deborah Lippmann Lara's Theme nail lacquer.

Girl Crush: Alison Mosshart

I fell head over heels with Alison when I heard Sour Cherry on the first season Gossip Girl, it was love at first listen. Since then, I've followed her music, she's fronted the bands: The Kills and The Dead Weather, and her effortless rock n' roll style all the way to Coachella in 2010 and Detroit a few months later. Her fashion might look a little rough around the edges, but don't be fooled. These worn-in pieces are from the best of the best, Marc Jacobs,  Zadig & Voltaire, Ann Demeulemeester, Sass & Bide to name a few.  She seems to also love vintage fur coats as much as I do. Like her fashion sense, her music is undeniably great. Songs from The Kills' current CD, Blood Pressures, as well as past Dead Weather numbers fill up all my spotify playlists.

Here's The Kills' latest video, The Last Goodbye:

Images are past google searches saved to my desktop.  I do not own these images.

music festival

Yesterday, Coachella finally released their 2012 lineup (and their site crashed shortly after). Our first Coachella experience was back in 2010 and though pricey (especially for us living on the east coast), it was totally worth it! And this year's lineup is just as exciting as 2010's.

So, who's going?

Bring on 2012!

The biggest party of the year is just a few short days away...have your outfit planned yet? If not, don't worry there's always overnight shipping! Shopbop is currently offering free overnight shipping today only, just in time for new year's eve. Here's some ideas to get you started.

Dress Up:
Look to dresses made of silk. Even if they are overly embellished with sequins and/or beads, the loose fit will allow you to be comfortable, while still looking gorgeous, all through the night.
1. Anna Sui  2. Parker  3. Marchesa

Jewels:
One of my favorite jewelry designers, Dannijo, makes the perfect statement jewelry. Even if you're not ready for over-the-top jewels, they have more subtle yet beautiful pieces that can dress up any outfit.
All by Dannijo

Party Pumps:
Depending on how over the top your dress it, you could opt for either statement or subtle. I'm a shoe fanatic and I'm pretty sure there is not one plain-jane shoe in my possession. One of my favorites is the YSL Tribute pump (shown in pale gold). For those who can't sport 5inch heels all night, bring a back up pair of glittery flats (my favorite, the glitter Tory Burch Reva's, currently on sale: here.)
1. YSL Tribute  2. Miu Miu (unless you're a lucky one who scored a pair, these beauties are sold out) 3. Alexander McQueen

Stay Warm:
No Snow on New Years! But, you might wanna stay warm, especially if you're making the rounds at different parties or watching the ball drop in NYC (like I am). There's no need to wear an oversized London Fog trench to keep warm. You can find a fur (or faux fur) piece in any style and/or color. These are some of my favorites (I will be wearing the E&J goat hair coat on nye).
1. E&J (now on sale!)  2. By Malene Birger  3. Alice by Temperley

Add Some Sparkle:
Who doesn't love glitter! NYE is the perfect occasion to add as much glitter as you can handle.

ps, If you're travelling, be sure to wrap embellished shoes, dresses, jackets, etc. in either a garment bag or in plastic. I constantly save my dry cleaning bags for these situations because they're nice and thin, perfect for packing in a weekend bag.
